Review on Capresso Burr Grinder, Black, 10 Height x 8 Length x 6 Width by Megan Smith

Decent low end grinder

I have been a long time and very happy home user of the Capresso Infinity and needed another grinder for my office for occasional use. I didn't want to spend too much, so I went for this model. In general, the purchase is satisfied. Compared to Infinity: - The grinding quality is slightly lower. Stable for the most part, however I get more dust/powder in the grind which makes pouring a bit difficult. - The noise is slightly louder and higher pitched. A little more annoying. - The weight is lighter and the device feels a little more plasticky and less durable. - Less grind settings but that's ok - I mostly grind in the middle on both machines. - Similar experience to adding and removing beans coffee grounds - although this unit has an extra lid on the "cup" to handle the coffee grounds. I find the extra part a bit annoying, although it stays clean. There are a few downsides, but at half the price? Not a bad deal at all. Since I don't use this every day, these trade-offs are perfectly acceptable. This device gets the job done and I haven't had any issues with static electricity or some of the interference that others have reported. UPDATE: Downgraded from four to three stars after some staff tried using it with their French abs. Even with the coarsest setting, the degree of grinding did not change much and the metal filter of the press became clogged. Still works decently for my pour overs, but I only really recommend it if your brewing method involves a paper filter.

Pros
  • High test results for grip and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other models
