This product is exactly what you think it is. Nice heavy ring mandrel that you can precisely wind, size and work with rings. One thing I wasn't up for was the jagged grooves that run the length. It may or may not have been listed in the description at the time of my purchase, but if I had noticed I would not have bought it. I am currently using it and it is effective for my production purposes but I was planning to use it for folding quarter rings and when this is used and a ring is placed on top of it and you start hammering the ring the notches along the Shaft be embossed in the ring. Now I can use it quite aggressively, but if someone needs a mandrel with a carefully polished and smooth surface then look elsewhere. The grooves help maintain alignment, but that's a disappointment to me. I have to give this item a high rating as it is of high quality and can withstand the strain without any damage. FYI, almost all metal items come with an oil coating to prevent rusting during storage. This is common practice. There have been some complaints about this not being stated but this is not usually mentioned as it is so common that it would be like telling you that we will put your address in the letter box.
