Review on ✈️ CRAZEDpilot CP-1ANR: Ultimate Active Noise Reduction Headset for Aircraft by Tommy Woods

Revainrating 4 out of 5

This headset is excellent value for money. The headset does what it should.

This is a 4 star product on the verge of 5 star greatness mainly because of the affordable price of the headset. Overall, this headset offers excellent value for money. The headset does what it should. ANR doesn't have the same attenuation as my Zulu PFX, Zulu.2 or Zulu headsets, but it does moderately attenuate the low end. A little more on this topic below. Several posts mentioned the lack of instructions for the headset; I found that this is not a factor. The headset is pretty much plug and play. Insert the 9V battery matching the polarity with the symbols inside the battery compartment. Put the headset on your head. Turn on the audio panel and the device magically comes to life. The volume can be increased or decreased using the buttons on each earcup. The device supports stereo. If you are using a headset and only listening in one ear, you are using a mono audio bar and will need to press the switch at the top of the battery compartment. There is also an additional input on the battery compartment of the device. To use it, connect a supported audio device with a standard audio cable. My biggest issue with the headset is the clamping pressure. After adjusting the headset for my (large) head, I wore the headset for an hour and a half of the flight and ended my day with a headache. Maybe I'm just overly sensitive as I remember having the same problem in my years of wearing David Clark 10-30, 10-40 and 10-60. I suspect that most pilots who buy this headset will not make it in time. Cadet pilots purchase a device for training. For this purpose I find these headphones ideal. I found the device's microphone to be excellent. My co-pilot couldn't tell the mic on this unit from my other headphones. This is a strong selling point as I've come across several inexpensive headsets with very poor mics. The device's ANR reduction is commensurate with its price. I found myself pulling the batteries out of the device several times during the flight to see if ANR was doing more than passively damping the device. It was. The device works, however it must be admitted that this device is not a Bose A20 or Zulu PFX. Low-frequency sounds are dampened, but not to the same extent as with the headsets mentioned above. I would put the ANR at 10-12db rather than 18-24db. For those considering purchasing this device as an alternative to the Headsets Inc ANR update for the David Clark headsets and their clones, I found the noise reduction of the Headset Inc ANR update to be slightly better than the CrazedPilot attenuation. However, the clarity of the CrazedPilot speaker was higher than that of the improved David Clark. If I had a pair of David Clark upgradeable headphones, I would probably upgrade rather than buy this unit. However, if I didn't have a headset or am looking for passenger headsets, this unit would be my economical choice. All in all, CrazedPilot has made (or rebranded) a great headset for the money. The delivery time was fast and the device worked well. As long as the headset price stays low, I think we have a winner. Clear sky and good wind, jw
