Review on 🏠 Sanyo CRSR-10 Sirius Satellite Receiver Dual Kit for Car and Home by Tim Harris

Can I give less than one star?

My wife and I bought a Sanyo CRSR-10 SIRIUS Radio and Home Docking Kit just after Christmas. The complete lack of quality was immediately apparent. Within the first two weeks, both of our car magnetic antennas broke. Reception was good during the two weeks it worked. However, the antenna wire broke at the point where it is attached to the magnetic part. Buying a replacement car antenna is more than half the price of a new receiver and kit! When I tried the devices in our house, I was very surprised that the antennas in the house had very poor reception. Our home is on a hill, and it's actually one of the highest points in Pittsburgh (over 3,000 feet). There are no nearby trees or other buildings that would block the signal. So I figured we wouldn't have a problem with good reception. I was wrong. Error inserting window. As a result, I had to put the antenna on the roof. I bought another home dock kit to have an extra home antenna. My idea was to use the house antenna in my car (on the rear window). It actually worked pretty well until I started having trouble with the adapter on the bottom of the receiver. The Sanyo CRSR-10 SIRIUS wireless adapter is a textbook case of bad engineering. This is an L-shaped adapter that fits into the bottom of the receiver. This adapter has an antenna input, an AC power input, and a speaker or headphone jack. Why they chose to use this adapter instead of building these connectors into the receiver is unclear. It's very cheaply made. After a few weeks of using the home antenna in the car, this adapter also broke. Specifically, a golden metal insert appeared in the antenna socket. I unplugged the antenna cable and this little gold jack came out! Now the receiver does not receive at all! Without this part, the antenna cannot make a good connection. Again, this is very bad technique. The Sanyo CRSR-10 SIRIUS radio warranty is terrible. It's like Sanyo knows the device will fall apart within the first year. In order for Sanyo to cover these issues under warranty, I must pay for shipping to one of Sanyo's Authorized Service Centers. The service center does not send it back at its own expense, so the device must be picked up! In the fine print, Sanyo reserves the right to replace the receiver and/or component parts with "new OR refurbished products or parts". So after the hassle and expense of covering the warranty, should I pick up my (probably) used replacement?! I work in tech support so in my experience this is one of the worst product warranties I have seen. I recommend you avoid the Sanyo CRSR 10 and save money for a better receiver.
