As the old saying goes, "If you like that kind of stuff, it was great." 15 years ago. I loved them for their low profile/center of gravity and also because they were thin and soft; the rubberized bottom didn't let them slip. Point turnover has never been a problem; They were an exceptionally stable base. In addition, they were exceptionally well made, with intricate details and beautiful colors. As I write there is one on the table next to me that is 15 years old with only the coffee colored fringes as the only indication - read ONLY - that it is an old coaster. Please note the color was the same as the one I just received. (I could probably bleach the fringes and they would be 15 years old in "as new" condition.) This confused me and prompted me to read some product literature. I'm not quoting here, so please read on. Her own, but I seem to remember that they are actually made of wool and of a very dense weave. Whatever the details, don't assume because these are "just" coasters, they aren't very well made. And I found them a great gift. I had a friend visiting and we're talking and all of a sudden she loses her temper. "It's so cool!" She got her first set for Christmas. What do you get from someone when you have no idea what to give them? Hey, everyone needs coasters - okay, most of us - and here's something unique, exceptionally high quality, functional, colorful, elegant, and sometimes even a talking point. I also bought a bookmark and a mouse pad, both of the same design, the bookmark without the rubber backing. I give a warm and clear "buy" recommendation. They are that simple; You're so nice.
