Review on πŸ”Œ PoE Texas GPOE-48v10w: Power over Ethernet Inline Converter for 12V and Solar to PoE Conversions - Efficiently Step Up Voltage to IEEE 802.3af by Jesse Blair

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Working but passive PoE only, no active 802.3af/at

Given the mention of 802.3af/at I was expecting it to be standard active PoE and not the "dumb" passive PoE, that cheaper adapters do, but that seems wrong - it's apparently just a passive PoE injector with a boost converter. Pro: It's easy to take a 12V input and a passive 48V PoE output. Cons: This is passive PoE, not active PoE, so be careful what you connect it to. wanted to "split" the PoE signal to power a 12V IR illuminator and then "pass" the PoE network to the nearest IP camera to get that to do the job, but I was not expecting that. Of course this will do what I want, but I think I'll still look for something that can work with active PoE so I never have to worry about connecting to the wrong device.

Pros
  • network adapter
Cons
  • Expensive
