Review on Canon PowerShot Compact Digital Camera by Doug Ellingson

GREAT little compact camera

I've had this camera for a little over three years now. I bought it because I wanted something that could easily fit in my pocket, that I can travel with, but still take better pictures than my phone. In essence, this camera was designed for a good compromise between image quality, including low light, and overall size. I think it takes very good photos. Certainly not as good as full frame. But since I'm so small, I actually grab it and carry it with me. He's been in Africa, all over the US, all over Europe, on multiple campaigns. I especially like the night photography options (with a small tripod). We also have a Sony RX10mk4 which is a much more capable machine (especially with optical zoom) but I still use this little Canon quite a bit. Looking back 3 years I'm very glad I bought it when I bought it (before the big trip) and that I had it with me for all my adventures. Holds up relatively well. Eventually the lens cover stopped opening and closing fully, but the sand that caused it to get stuck eventually came out. Great little machine. Very capable. And I think it was profitable back in 2017 and even more so now in 2020. Of course, the RX100 is the "best" camera for everything you're trying to do here (compact, good photo quality). They have the same sensor size, but the RX100 has a faster brain and longer zoom. But is it *twice* better? I do not know. For my money I would buy this camera again if I lost it tomorrow.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Not bad
