I've used them a few times and probably 2 or 3 times it's been smooth. 90% of the time I just had to drill a 1/2" hole and glue them in because either the pull was terrible or my piece started splitting. Then why bother with an insert when an epoxy nut will do the same for literally a fraction of the price. They sell proprietary 'setup kits', but according to other reviews, the special attachment (odd size that very few people have on hand) doesn't even work 100% of the time in terms of splitting and tearing. I'm sure they're great for softwood, but there are better options for hardwood. Save money and time. Stay away.
