Review on πŸ’½ MEGAZ DIGITAL Portable External Hard Drive 250GB - USB 3.0 HDD for PC, Mac, Laptop, Chromebook - Grey by Dusty Wonsley

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A good mechanical hard drive for transferring large files

+ This mechanical hard drive has a write speed of 75MB/s, which can be quite disappointing compared to the blistering speed of an SSD. But since it is a mechanical hard drive, there is no drastic slowdown even after long writing. I have 512GB portable SSDs, and while they can start out at 300MB/s and up, it typically drops to 20MB/s after a few minutes. This hard drive supports high write speeds from empty to full. It's not a good external drive if you want to install software and games on it, but it's a good external drive if you want to burn large files + My Windows computer recognized it immediately + Power and data in one cable: external source power supply is not needed. Uses standard "Micro-B" portable hard drive cable, does not use Type-C + 465 GB usable + exfat preformatted + 350 GB file copy, speed starts at 75 MB/s and then drops to 55 MB/s until the end. Compared to 512GB micro SD card: slightly cheaper, MUCH more, same read speed, faster write speed Compared to 512GB portable SSD: cheaper, slightly larger, much slower read speed, slower write speed for small transfers but higher average Write speed for large transfers
