Ideal for backing up: Computers and accessories

I can't remember the last time I saw a spinning drive, but this one is USB powered. My Windows 10 system shows 465GB (in exFAT format) as expected. My system recognized it straight away, including through the dock, and was able to format and use it right away. I tested transferring around 90GB of data and it worked at consistent USB3 speeds, maintaining 85+/Mbps throughout the transfer. This is important as usually an SSD with so much data will lose speed as it gets hotter, but that hasn't…

Pros
  • Rugged design
Cons
  • So far so good

Solid hard drive if you want a hard drive.

This is a really good solid hard drive. It feels good in the hand and the aluminum body seems to stand up to any kind of rough handling. With a current price of less than $40, this is a great way to get extra storage, use it as a time machine backup for your Mac, or to store your photos. It's a valid question if you really want a hard drive when flash can be a little cheaper and faster, but there are things you still need hard drives for and I'm assuming you've already accepted that solution if

Good assembly, nice looks, good price

Very nice packaging and a nice aluminum case gave a feeling of quality. It connected to my computer and was instantly recognized without the need for initialization, so it was ready to go right out of the box. However, I reformatted it to NTFS and F32, but don't do this if you intend to use it on multi-OS devices. I uploaded my 124GB portable backup photo files from the internal 1TB SSD and it took 45 minutes so not too bad. The build is pretty solid, but it turned out to be a bit heavier and…

Pros
  • Useful not only for its intended purpose
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Fast all-round hard drive at a great price

I ordered the 500GB version of this external hard drive. It works great on all my devices: laptops, tablets and two desktops in my house. It's also very fast with fast and glitch-free transfers, even with large files. I've used it with equal success on Windows and Linux, and on devices from different manufacturers. This drive is also slim, compact and stylish in appearance. Retailing at just under $40 for a drive this size also makes it a steal. I can't confirm the advertised claims about shock

Pros
  • Handy item
Cons
  • Lots of stuff

A good mechanical hard drive for transferring large files

+ This mechanical hard drive has a write speed of 75MB/s, which can be quite disappointing compared to the blistering speed of an SSD. But since it is a mechanical hard drive, there is no drastic slowdown even after long writing. I have 512GB portable SSDs, and while they can start out at 300MB/s and up, it typically drops to 20MB/s after a few minutes. This hard drive supports high write speeds from empty to full. It's not a good external drive if you want to install software and games on it…

Pros
  • Good for many
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Slightly faster than the USB 2.0 standard

This drive uses a dual standard USB 3.0 connector and has USB-A on the end (wish they had a USB-A to USB-C -Converter added to). The file transfer speed is what you would expect from USB 2.0 and not USB 3.0 as the hard drive speed doesn't even hit 7200rpm and the maximum speed of the write heads is just over 110MB/s for me. The reading speeds are similar and can therefore only really be used for documents and not as an additional program disk. On the other hand, if the manufacturer did a good…

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • There are bugs

Enough storage

I do a lot of creative work on my laptop and it's never had better storage. This external hard drive was a big improvement. It was easy to install and didn't take long to transfer some of the large files that were cluttering up my laptop. However, I'm a bit disappointed that the cable doesn't seem to be universal for this. I never liked single-use cords that were strewn about the house. I imagine this amount of storage could be added with a USB flash drive for about the same price…

Pros
  • Beautiful thing
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Why not use a USB stick (see details)?

I don't quite understand the MEGAZ DIGITAL USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive 500GB. however cheaper. I posted the ATTO speed test results. I mean this is a 5400 RPM laptop so the results are about twice as fast as a USB 2.0 device. On the plus side, write speeds don't suffer from the NAND flash buffer overfill issue. Plus, you don't have to worry about endurance when shooting. The case feels well made and the 4.5W from USB 3.x is enough to keep you from needing a two-wire USB-A cable. If I…

  • Good product for the price
