Review on πŸ”¨ DEWALT DCD996P2 Lithium Brushless 3-Speed Hammer Drill by David Bowens

Revainrating 2 out of 5

All that fuss about a loose battery. Believe!

Poorly designed battery mount not only rattles like explosives in a boxcar in a drill but also in a charger. This makes charging difficult; All you have to do is nudge the charger while it's charging and the light goes out - a sign of a bad battery, according to DeWalt. You'll have to fiddle with the battery in the charger to get the charging light back on - then DO NOT TOUCH! And when it's fully charged and you hit it, the charge indicator will go off and on again, starting the entire charging cycle over, even if the indicator on the battery says 'fully charged'. I accidentally ordered the non-hammer version and sent it back three days ago. Before I discovered (due to unclear Revain specs) that it wasn't a rock drill I charged one of the battery packs and it was a good solid reliable mount for the drill and charger. Why the difference is beyond me, but with the hammer drill version it's day and night. Garbage! All in all I would like to have my 20 year old DeWalt 24V NiCAD hammer/drill repaired. It was my workhorse. But that (wow) is no longer supported by DeWalt. I wouldn't leave this new "horse" alone in the stable for fear it would fall apart.
