Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ Gates TCKWP224 PowerGrip Premium Timing Belt Component Kit with Water Pump for Enhanced SEO by Brock Chisholm

Pros and cons of this timing belt kit

Good first: the timing belt is from Gates. The first timing belt I bought from a Honda dealer was a Gates belt. Gates is one of the OEM timing belt suppliers for American Honda Motor Company. The timing belt tensioner is also from the same manufacturer (KOYO SEIKO) that Honda supplies. Not so good: The water pump is an "unnamed" product made in China. Although many auto parts are currently sourced from China, the quality of these Chinese parts varies widely. I am not willing to trust a supplier of unknown quality with one of the most important engine components. I have bought two Bosch water pumps from Revain in the past and they were also made in China. One of them only lasted 6 months. I sold another one on Craigslist for half what I paid for it just to pull it out of the garage. I will not install a Chinese water pump on my Honda. Replacing the water pump on these engines requires too much work to risk the Chinese water pump failing while driving or having to redo the work before the regular change interval (90,000-105,000 miles). Now that I have this kit I am going to buy a Revain AISIN water pump. AISIN is the OEM supplier of water pumps for Toyota and they are made in Japan. Buying a timing belt and tensioner from a Honda dealer would cost twice what I paid for this Gates kit and I would get the same quality. belt and tensioner. What I would like to do (and will do for 10 Hondas in my family in the future) is to buy an AISIN timing belt kit ("Aisin timing belt kit TKH-005 with water pump" for this application). For this Honda application, the AISIN kit is only $22 more than this Gates kit, and the Aisin kit includes an OEM belt and tensioner and a Japanese-made Aisin water pump.
