This is a great filter for removing diluted iron from well water. It also removes hydrogen sulfide. It must be paired with a DGD 5005 filter capable of removing iron particles and other debris. We use these two filters in a downhole system and install the DGD 5005 and RFFE20-BB after the accumulator but before the water heater - the installation order is accumulator, then DGD-5005, then RFFE20-BB, then water heater. In our setup, these filters remove approximately 4ppm of iron from the water: 2ppm as solids and 2ppm as diluted iron. In our application, they need to be replaced about every 3-4 months. Since these are mechanical filters, the water pressure will gradually drop as they fill up with iron and other debris. Filters should be changed when either the water pressure and water flow drop to a level that bothers you, or when you begin to notice iron in the water. We usually swap depending on the pressure and water flow. We have found that replacing the DGD 5005 filter at the first drop in water pressure allows us to use the RFFE20-BB filter for another 3-4 weeks.
