I've been riding bikes for over 40 years and own a lot of Bates, Joe Rocket, Alpinestars and MotoGP jackets so this isn't my first rodeo. I don't think this is a bad jacket for the price. It is real leather so not top or full grain leather. This means it feels hard, heavy, and rough rather than soft. It smells very strongly of chemicals. No doubt they used to give him a "problematic" look. I really didn't want to wear it with such a strong chemical smell. Since it was relatively cheap, I decided to give it a try. I tossed it in the washing machine with some detergent. I hung it outside, out of direct sun, to dry during the day. After the first wash it turned a bit black, the gray hairs disappeared. It still smelled chemically, so I repeated the process two more times without detergent. After letting it dry for a few days I used Leather Honey Leather Conditioner to soften the jacket a bit. It ended up looking better, softer and a lot less chemical. I've worn it a few times and the only thing I can fault is that the shoulder armor pockets aren't very well thought out and the shoulder pads move too much for my liking. If you're willing to work with it a little, I think you'll be happy with this jacket. By the way, apply leather honey with your bare hands and your hands will be nice and soft too!
