In my rainbow tank, the fish had a severe form of Ichthyophthyriasis. I survived the quarantine and ended up at DT. I treated two tanks at the same time, one with Hikari Ich-X (malachite green and formalin) and the other with just cupramine. The Ich-X tank was finally empty after about 6 days and daily treatments, the two lost fish and the tank turned blue-green. In another tank treated with cupramine there was no loss (and the hat tank has Amano, Otos and Kori shrimp). Started with the recommended dose of 0.25 mg/l fresh water for 48 hours. As the fish showed negative signs or stress, I increased the dose to 0.5ppm over the next few days. I used a Seachem copper test kit and measured CAREFULLY when reading reports of a nuclear bomb overdose. After 10 days there are no losses of fish and invert, signs of ichthyophthyriasis in fish are absent both on the skin and in the gills (there is no shortness of breath). I will follow the recommended dosing time of 14 days and add Matrix activated charcoal to the filters to remove the cupramine. Pros of using this drug: - It does not stain like formalin. several days), while the medicine stays in the tank, sitting there with the waiter, waiting for the disgusting swarms of them to hatch so they can be destroyed! - Economical as I only needed about 24ml in a 125 gallon tank (plus 5 gallon filtration volume) to achieve a 0.5ppm treatment dose. I would have to take 65ml of EACH CAN of Paraguard DAILY for 28 days! It's 1820ml Paraguard! Cons: - DO NOT use if you are lazy, it requires a copper measurement to confirm dosage. - Can't think of any other downsides to using this product. From now on I will switch to using formalin/malachite in my quarantine tank.
