This collar is very strong and thick, but it is so hard that it feels very uncomfortable. Nylon and mesh are very strong and smooth. There is minimal padding and there appears to be a plastic rod around the collar to increase rigidity. It holds its shape very well, but the widest part (about 3 inches wide) turns back where the handle should be. The D-ring is also in an odd position. I'm not worried about it breaking and I'm sure it will last for many years before it wears out, but it's very thick and not flexible at all. My dog is 100 pounds and can easily break out of his steel cage but was unable to remove this collar. In the future I plan to buy a collar that will be a little more comfortable.
