One of the most interesting audiophile products.

This is the first Revain review I want to write. I bought this amp because of a problem with the McIntosh C31-V preamp. (Yes audio lovers, even McIntosh has issues sometimes!) I use it as a headphone preamp and bought it through New Song after several people commented that Connie in particular was amazing at accommodating their needs. It arrived in no time and I was blown away by the sound it produced, apart from being an intriguing device, largely due to the 6E2's "magic eye". At the age of 74, I won't chime in on questions about how my ears react to tube heat, but as Professor Emeritus of Physics, I say it's impressive electronics. You've probably heard that tube amps don't work well with high-impedance banks, but I can assure you (no pun intended) that at least with "the headphones I've listened to, this little gem is up to the task." I've tested the amp so far with a Beyerdynamic 770 (80 ohms), AKG 240M (55 ohms) and an old pair of Crazy Eddie AKG 240M (600 ohms) (remember Crazy Eddie? in stock!) These last were a long time my "running" phones. I have to say I was quite surprised when the high impedance AKGs sounded as loud as a pair of 55 ohms at the same volume setting. I'm sure it has to do with everyone's sensitivity, but it was anyway very reassuring. And well, at 74 (I can hear you talking) I might not be the best sound level judge, but as a physicist I know my dB and they were within 3 dB of each other. Dared didn't even start. Okay , I mostly listen to classical music (although I love Led Zeppelin and Queen. Hey! I'm a '60s kid, right?), so I won't comment on whether the amp might split ears. But what surprised me the most was the difference between the 770 and 240M. Beyerdynamic's cans were surprisingly better. But the biggest shock was hearing any difference at all. That's all. But the big plus is that there is a real person on the other end. Connie was friendly and happy to respond to my requests for technical information. It seems valuable to me these days (gold? vacuum tubes? what?). Other people have commented on how great this amp is, so I won't go into detail. But it's heavy (always a good sign for an amp) and the build quality is impressive. just enjoy it And know that if you have a question or a problem, Connie is always there.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • I don't really like anything, everything is fine
