Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Optimized Suburban NT-20S Furnace for RVs by Sri Mims

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Very disappointed. the best in heaters and stoves

First time I bought something that had to be disassembled and repaired first. I had the choice to return it thanks to Revains' generous return policy. After reading several other reviews with the same issues, I decided to just fix this unit instead. The NT-20s RV stove arrived quickly. It was an oven in a box, a bigger box. The box it came in was in good condition. There was no original box for the firebox, it was clearly visible that it had fallen on the front edge and damaged the sheet metal. As if it had been damaged first and then stuffed into a box. Noticing the bent sheet metal cover, I removed it. I see that the igniter is loose in the assembly. In no reliable homestead would it ever begin like this. And here I notice that the knee of the brass fitting for the gas inlet does not coincide with the hole in the cover. Sigh. After reading some reviews I see that this is not an isolated case. Luckily I have the skills to fix things. So I removed the front cover from the oven (needs to be removed to install) and quickly noticed that the sheet metal was so dented that it was difficult to remove. I almost used an old tin case, it was warped. This oven has only one screw to attach the oven's "innards" to its outer lid. I could clearly see that instead of using the original hole that came with the box, the person who assembled the oven drilled 1/2" how far the inlet line was from the hole in the lid. It's designed to do that "You can take the oven off the lid without removing it completely. In my case this all needs to be removed to still be able to work with it. Clearly the way this oven attaches to the lid needs to be better designed. So "I looked for other problems but couldn't find them and put the oven back together. I noticed an on/off switch which the old ovens don't have, the original unit was 27 years old. Be sure to turn it on. It's practically useless is since you can never access that switch I removed it, hardwired it and bypassed the switch it must be a Fed requirement to put a switch in. The igniter was faulty and bad vera works, dangles in the assembly and just bounces around. So I cleaned the igniter from the old oven with 800 grit sandpaper and installed it. Yes, I had to use an old part for the new oven to work. Watch a short video. And as I fight it, I feel sticky in my fingers, oh? What is that? Great, now I'm bleeding. Sheet metal has sharp edges, be careful. It would make sense to guide the file over the sharp edges. It didn't impress me. Quality control is a joke, it should never go beyond the building. Says it's "checked", yes, of course. After repairing the unit with the old ignition assembly (which was firmly and properly secured in its 'holder') I connected the wiring and gas supply and before sealing everything I tested the unit which is now quickly turned on, warmed up and worked normally. The new 6-blade forced air fan is stylistically different from the old 4-blade metal fan. He calmed down a bit, you could tell that immediately. 2 stars for that and I'm being generous. So now it works correctly as it should from the beginning. If I wasn't so inclined to fix things I would have to send them back. Apparently they are put together by people who know nothing, along with the management who oversees the production. I will add some photos showing the problems. It wouldn't hurt to spend a few bucks more for a proper shipping box with some padding, the packaging is ill thought out for something that costs $670. And send a device that obviously does not work without intervention? Shame on the manufacturers that are based in China and that's enough. My advice is: just find a van store that sells stoves. And inspect it right there, pay the extra money and make sure it wasn't thrown around first. This oven was so poorly built I thought it might be a fake. But now I think it's nothing more than very poor quality control as not everyone has problems. But those who have it have the same problems as me. - Bent sheet metal due to poor packaging - Bad igniter - Incorrect assembly (Gas line misaligned) And check that igniter and wiggle it, make sure it's tight. If they are all the same as mine you will need to replace them. I tried to fix the new igniter but not there, just bad design, you will have problems with the camper bouncing. Much luck.

Pros
  • Two or more models can be used for zone heating
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
