I don't have a chartplotter on my boat so I used this inexpensive receiver to transmit GPS data (NMEA-0183) to my marine VHF radio. I simply cut off the connector and hardwired the receiver to a 5vdc power supply (a small buck regulator I bought off Amazon) and to the radio's data bus. It quickly locked onto the satellites and maintained reception no matter where I found the "puck" INSIDE my fiberglass boat. Worked great.
