The device itself works as it should after commissioning. The instructions are completely useless. I spent about an hour trying to set it up using the "Connect with WPS" and "Connect with NETGEAR Setup Assistant" setup instructions included in the quick start guide, to no avail. I was about to request an RMA but decided to look through the answers to questions and customer reviews. I came across a review by Minnie I. that describes a very simple and straightforward setup procedure that consists of 4 steps: 1) Plug in the device. It will probably take a few seconds and sometimes minutes for the power indicator to turn green. Don't despair. The instructions don't say it will take time, but it does. 2) Pull out your iPad, Kindle Fire or other WIRELESS tablet or device. DO NOT USE YOUR DESKTOP to connect. Go to Settings on your wireless device and wait for it to see your router name plus the ___EXT suffix. When it appears, select that Wi-Fi connection. You will be prompted for the same password you use on your real router. Enter this password. 3) You will be taken to a website to set up the extender. If you try to access this website from your DESKTOP computer, you will receive an error message. Once you get to this website, the instructions in the package will become clear to you. 4) When you're done setting up, unplug the extender and move it to the location where you want to improve wireless performance. Again, using your mobile device (or another computer), use the Settings menu to find the Widi connection. Choose a network connection with the name of your wireless network PLUS the suffix ___EXT. The password is the same as your normal Wi-Fi network. I bought the device to use with a 3rd generation Apple TV which no longer detects wireless networks but still works with an ethernet connection. I would add a step for those in a similar situation to mine: 5) Plug in the Ethernet port on both the NETGEAR N300 and your device (Apple TV in my case) BEFORE plugging in the N300 plug in an outlet. If you connect the ethernet cable after the N300 has started, it will turn itself off.
