Review on SMARTLINER Custom Fit Floor Mats 3 Row Liner Set Black for 2013-2020 Toyota Sienna 8 Passenger Model – Top-Quality Protection and Perfect Fit! by Mike Pettigrew

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Lots of money for what you get and material causes functional issues with 3rd row floor mat

I jumped on these floor mats to protect our new 2013 Toyota Sienna XLE. The van we received is in near perfect condition and I wanted it to stay that way so I paid close to $200 for these floor mats. First, the kit does NOT come with a trunk mat, which I thought for some reason. But that was my fault as it is not listed as included with the set and if I want a trunk mat to come with this set I have to pay a little over $80 more to get it. My bad rating comes mainly from the material. what these rugs are made of and the fact that I think they are made of something better based on how expensive they are. These mats are made of hard hard plastic. I'll talk about that in a second. Firstly, to be honest, these floor mats fit PERFECTLY in the front driver's footwell and passenger's footwell. And I mean PERFECT. The carpets can move almost a millimeter and cover the maximum possible space. This part is great. That's why I gave the carpets 2 and not 1. I could even give the rugs 2.5 stars if I could base it on that. The problem occurs with second and third row mats. The second row floor mats are fine. It doesn't fit as well as the front ones. There is a small area of unprotected carpet just behind the center console, even if you raise the floor mats as high as possible. There are also unprotected areas on the sides. But that's also a minor complaint - although for $200 plastic mats there should be NO minor complaints. My main problem is the mat in the 3rd row. It doesn't fit in there AT ALL, even if you adjust the 2nd row seats to best fit that mat. Now I know there will be inherent problems cutting the mat for where the seats are adjustable BUT the big problem is the material the mats are made of. The material exacerbates the problem. Because the mats are made of hard plastic, the entire third row mat simply inflates and completely detaches from the floor when the adjustable seat presses on it and puts pressure on the mat. IF the mats were made of a better material - for example thicker, more durable rubber that is more flexible (the kind of material SO MANY heavy duty floor mats are made of), which will happen instead if the seats are adjusted so that they press against it and waves would appear on the mat, or a "lump" would appear on the mat where pressure is forcing it. Because these mats are made from a thick slab of perfectly rigid and inflexible plastic, when pressure is applied to the mat where something like an adjustable seat rests on the mat, this will cause the ENTIRE mat to buckle and slip, forcing you to move completely . This is because the material is so inflexible that if something pushes against it, the entire mat is forced to move, rather than just a "pile" in the resulting carpet like any other durable mat would. from the best material. So what we have in the 3rd row back seat is the mat that is always out of place and has a huge "air bubble" or empty space underneath it if it crashes at all as there is no "give". the mat gives everything that would allow pressure to be applied to it without forcing the entire mat out of position. This is very annoying. As I said, this annoys me the most because these rugs are SUPER expensive for what you get. You get 4 pieces of hard plastic for almost $200 and if only they were made out of the more flexible, "flexible" thick rubber material that I see so many heavy duty car mats being made of then we wouldn't have this problem. the carpet of the third row, where nothing gives in to it at all, and therefore it constantly "jumps” completely out of place when something presses on it. And it's going to put pressure on him because that mat is next to the reclining seats. So basically I'm frustrated that I paid so much to have these rugs made out of poor quality material that doesn't feel and perform as well as the best quality I can think of. As said, the front driver and passenger floor mats are cut like a glove for the front legs. I was very happy with it. So now we have to decide whether to return these mats for a refund or keep them and try to make some cuts ourselves to minimize the frequency of the mat being pushed off the seat next to it, causing the mat to move. I'm not sure what to do because getting back online is such a hassle. PLUS, still need to buy a mat in the trunk. I can't believe the hard plastic floor mats for this $200 minivan didn't include a trunk mat. They don't usually write reviews anyway, but I thought people thinking about buying should take some advice.
