Review on Fluke I400 400 Current Clamp by David Lambert

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well done and does the job

Great probe once you learn how to use it. mA, not A. This is stated pretty clearly in the instructions, so it's fine. Note. You cannot fix the power cord with a clamp and take a measurement. Why? Because the AC signal essentially goes through the hot wire and out the neutral wire and the two signals cancel each other out. You just have to put the amp clamp around the hot wire (or neutral if it's connected correctly, but it should actually be hot). If you don't have an open wall or panel this isn't possible, so you'll need an "AC Line Splitter". Revain sells a lot. I have an Amprobe ELS2A and love it. This probe is very well made, has a nice strong clasp and the cable is flexible enough to stay out of my way. Why don't you just get a universal ammeter? ? As for me, I prefer to just hang the clamp on the wires and then put the meter on the ground (or whatever) so I can see it. I also don't like manipulating watch faces and such directly in the service panel. With these all-in-one devices, I want to take my hand out of my pocket. :) Also, I can use this on both my handheld Fluke and my desktop meter.

Pros
  • Companion to your 400A AC DMM
Cons
  • Doubtful
