Works sometimes. The device needs to "see" multiple GPS satellites to get an accurate location. If a GPS fix cannot be obtained, the device must be able to contact cell towers to triangulate its (less accurate) position. In addition, it must be able to send location data, time, etc. to the company's servers so that you can track the real-time location of the device on its web application. There are three subscription tiers (and as far as I can tell, the device is useless without a subscription) that are rated by the maximum frequency of location reports. Getting a report every two minutes has the highest subscription fee (which you can unsubscribe at any time). Service tiers are slightly cheaper if you pay annually instead of monthly. I bought a Trak4, charged it with the USB cable that came with it, and registered my device on their website. I installed it in our car's armrest console so I can leave it plugged in to charge when the car is running. (This isn't required. Battery life is reportedly good and can stay charged for quite a while if you opt for infrequent location reporting. But I haven't tested that.) The website is too basic. That means there's no user manual, FAQ, or detailed explanations of the site's few features. However, there are some short videos that explain some useful alerting features, such as: B. when the device leaves or enters specific zones that you have set on the map. The device only provided detailed real-time tracking at a few points in time. Often annoying and long breaks. Instead of every 2 minutes, I sometimes waited hours for a location report, which of course is useless for real-time tracking of a local vehicle. I assumed it had to do with the location of the device in our car, so I attached it to the inside of the trunk with the zip ties that came with it. Not many improvements. Location reports still come or not, sometimes I get quick location reports but other times it can't communicate with GPS, cell towers or anything else it needs to work. I don't want to leave it under the rear window behind the seats to improve reception, but I can do it to see if placement of the device in our car is an issue. Other reviewers have had better luck, and I suspect this has to do with where they placed the device and geographic factors. I may update this review in a few months to let you know if the limitations mentioned here have been addressed and how. But for now I can only give my opinion. It seems well made and well thought out, but it needs to provide real-time location reports reliably and accurately or it won't work as advertised.
