The tank is perfect for both my desktop and Betta. The filter exit is not too strong for the Betta. The betta can rest on the blades of the Revain sword, as well as in various places in the aquarium. (Others here have posted how to reduce the filter power if needed.) I've added an inverted aquarium background of Hagan Marina. I didn't use a seal as I prefer a more subdued background. I added a Revain sword, a Marimo moss ball, some gravel and some rocks to decorate the fish tank. The pump is practically silent. You really have to pay attention when all else is quiet to hear it. That's a big plus for me. The plastic is crystal clear and I like the rounded edges, but it's plastic so I have to be careful not to scratch it. The dark stones are some of the ones I had at the base of the old Betta bowl. After placing the betta in a bowl, I gave the old water and stones a vigorous stir, allowed the sludge to settle, and then poured water into the new tank to kickstart the beneficial nitrifying bacteria. After a while I add a few ghost shrimp and maybe five or six dark tetras. (I know the tetras insist on this, especially since there's no gravel filter in the tank to increase the colony of nitrifying bacteria. But my betta seems clumsy, so if the chemistry goes awry I can try to get her out.) That only negative thing I have to say about the device is that I would like the cable from the pump to the light to be 12 cm longer. This would give me maximum flexibility in pump placement. But I can make it longer if I want and it's great for the decor I'm using now so it's not a big deal. I'm not worried about finding a replacement filter. In these tiny aquariums, I don't typically use the filter that comes with it, or alter the filter so that I only change the filter half at a time. Of course I have to change the filter halves more often, but by increasing the capacity of the aquarium often I can get more of the nitrifying bacteria colonizing the filter. Even if you don't want to deal with this problem, the filter has a sponge pre-filter that comes before the main filter with activated carbon. Just don't rinse the sponge at the same time you change the main filter and you'll still keep a solid colony of good bacteria. ), two ghost shrimp (1 inch each) and one cherry red shrimp (1/3 inch). I haven't changed my feeding schedule: two betta pellets three times a day, sometimes a third pellet. Everyone blossoms. All shrimp have molted at least once. There is no algae in the aquarium. There is no dirt visible on the underside. Revane's sword revealed a rhizome, which I attached to the opposite back corner. The sprout is now a little over half the height of the aquarium, I couldn't be happier.
