This is a charming little aquarium and I love how it looks. But the pump is not that great. The suction cups on the back will not stick to the walls of the tank, causing the pump to detach and sink. Unfortunately I used black sand as a base and the pump seems to have sucked the sand in and must have burned the motor while cleaning and it still doesn't work. Will have to buy another pump. So does what it should. It's plastic. The filter is fine. He moves water. However, I think a micro-sponge would work better. The light is about as bright as a flashlight at a dollar store, so I use a table lamp I had as a spare. Mine cracked but Revane fixed it. Remember this item is SMALL. You do not hide this fact. Bought this small aquarium for my Betta, Swim Shady. I have it on my desk at work otherwise I would put it in a 5 gallon tank. When I first got this tank the filter didn't work. It didn't turn on, didn't even show any signs of trying to work. Contacted Revain and they expedited a new set for me. I installed this filter and it works great. The tank is perfect for both my desktop and Betta. The filter exit is not too strong for the Betta. The betta can rest on the blades of the Revain sword, as well as in various places in the aquarium. (Others here have posted how to reduce the filter power if needed.) I've added an inverted aquarium background of Hagan Marina. I didn't use a seal as I prefer a more subdued background.
