Review on ๐Ÿข Miele S8390 Kona Canister Vacuum Cleaner by Danielle Hart

These vacuums are AMAZING! Like, like, something like.

WHY: So. This canister vacuum replaces my Kirby Tradition which I bought new around 1980-81. One of those door-to-door vendors that usually visit small US towns. Turns out it was my older brother who had a trunk full of new vacuums and sold me his demonstration car cheap. Yes, over the years a part or two have been replaced. But what's really amazing is that parts and service are still available at 33 or so. But. heavy (it's solid metal), wasn't built as a HEPA vacuum (it's been redesigned to use a Kirby HEPA bag), plus we're out of carpet and we just don't need all the accessories that come with a venerable old but reliable mega machine. Reviews, recommendations and practical tests and durability led me to Miele. Enter the search for Miele canisters. Wow! They don't take it easy on themselves as there are at least 8 different (I counted 10 on their website) models to choose from. The research was lengthy and involved a few visits to a large local company, a hardware store and an independent retailer. RESULTS: First, decide whether you want a "motorized hose" or not. To use a floor nozzle (brush-fan unit) with its own motor, you need a vacuum cleaner with an electrical connection through a hose, handle and extension tube. This one piece of advice will save you hours in your decision-making process. (Note: motorized hoses are slightly heavier). WHAT: Here are some considerations. There are at least (3) three motorized ground heads. So if you only have floor mats, you probably don't need the SB-236 motor head. But it is lit. pocket size. Miele bags don't come cheap, so some units use G/N type bags, which hold 4.76 litres. The FJM bag holds 3.7 liters. The HEPA filter is a separate exhaust filter and is well made. I would have liked a vacuum cleaner with a multi-layer bag and separate HEPA cartridge from Miele. In this regard, Miele is the clear winner! I went over my budget but chose the Kona. Series "8" with many functions. Set up your vacuum cleaner with the Miele configurator [.] PRACTICE: My purchase was well packaged so Revane must have read some of the reviews on choosing a shipping carton. Unpacking and installing the filters was very easy. Manual mode is fine, but once you install the HEPA filter, you don't need it anymore. This little vacuum cleaner is very easy to use and does a great job on all floor surfaces and carpets. Supplied with SEB-228 Powerbrush which can be turned on and off using the handle. I wouldn't mind a bigger brush, but you can buy one separately. It just doesn't fit in the tool box on board. One of the conveniences is the cleaning radius and easy cord retraction. I can photograph an entire house in minutes without having to lug around a ton of accessories. Not sure if this will last 30+ years but I like the warranty just hope I don't have to use it. May 11, 2014 **UPDATE** Wow! The switch on the handle has failed so no electric brush unless I spend $169.95 plus tax on a brand new hose with handle. Miele bad design. I've really enjoyed using it for the past two years (to date) and now it's such a disappointment. I expected better.
