Review on ๐Ÿ“ Enhance Your Accuracy with General Tools 444 Depth Angle by Maurice Branch

Just good, poorly made

I bought this depth gauge to use the depth gauge for drilling, turning wooden hollowware and boxes. Used for a week. The bottom plate looks as if it was cast, there are traces of mold on the sides. The milling of the slot for the ruler is uneven, with protrusions, which is why the ruler does not slide well. When I took it out of the box there was machining oil and metal debris on the gauge and under the bolt which I had to disassemble and degrease, clean and lightly re-grease. The ruler still slides out of round due to bad slot milling. The ruler itself is good, with fine graduations, metric (150mm) on one side and inch (6) in 64s on the other, which Starrett doesn't seem to have. There is no slot as shown in the photo to read the rule. In general I'm disappointed with the quality of the sensor, but I really didn't want to pay 2-3 times as much for Starrett. I threw away the packaging so can't return it, maybe there would have been better quality control in a different packaging. It will serve its purpose. 3 stars, rough cut, good ruler, enough, square or not, I don't care. (January 2014)
