I found out about this tool from North American Motoring when it came time to replace the rear brakes on my 2004 Mini Cooper S. The front brake was pretty easy to change, but I've heard that the piston on the rear caliper can't be compressed without such a tool. I figured it was still cheaper than paying a mechanic so it was worth it in the short and long term. I bought this tool because I figured each side of the car would need a separate winding direction. I've found that I only need to use one of the two backtracking tools. I didn't need any extra bits either, except for the center piece, which could be positioned against the back of the caliper for tightening. This Astro Air Brake Caliper Tool made this job possible. It took a few tries to figure it out, but it has everything you need. You have to constantly tighten the central nut, but this does not cause much inconvenience. – Ken Fleming.
