I run a small licensed pet show and rescue service and don't have the funds so I just can't justify paying more than $200 for a larger universal chip reader. We have many of our own animals that are microchipped and sometimes they get lost or abandoned. The most commonly used chip in our area is the HomeAgain chip and this reader had no problem reading all of the chips on any of our animals including the macaw whose chip is in the pectoral muscle and our 50 pound chip Sulcatta turtle whose Chip is about 2 inches below the shell. I was surprised at how forgiving it was when you held it over the chip to read it properly. A handy tool for confirming your pets' chip numbers and quickly checking for stray animals that might cross your path.
