I have a Thermador built-in microwave (like Bosch). It has been swapped out several times and on a Saturday night I put something in it and it immediately made a different noise than normal and I saw flames π₯ π₯ π₯ from the cover of the magnetron! Luckily I was right next to him so I stopped him immediately. It was the cover of the magnetron and when I took it off the material burned and just fell apart. The manufacturer's part was $37, so I decided to try it myself. I was able to assemble the burnt part and draw a line around it, as well as the hole where the screw attached it to the microwave, and work on one of the sheets I bought. I punched a hole in it with a leather punch and put the new part back in. I tested it with a cup of water and a low setting and lo and behold, my microwave is working again!
