game change. For real. (Updated with more potential frustration)

Pause your work and write down the date and time. Then buy it. Your life will never be the same again. Can't think of anything that hasn't already been said, but this is essentially the iPhone in the coffee world. It's a game changer: 1) Easy to use, easy to maintain, no complicated rituals 2) Makes REALLY GOOD coffee that can be easily customized to your taste 3) VERY AFFORDABLE compared to a full counter of coffee machines (trust me, i was there ) 4) It is portable. Can be taken on trips, used in hotels. You can take it on a hike, hunt or go fishing. You can take it to your office. In fact, I bought a second one for my office. This thing can make the best coffee anywhere that has boiling water. I'll be brief because. For real. Just buy it already. The more time you spend reading this, the longer Aeropress will change your life. UPDATED - Ok it's probably been 4 months since I bought my first Aeropress. I liked it so much I bought another one for my office. The first Aeropress held maybe 500 cups, the second maybe 100. The problem is that the seal on that first device was completely, completely removed. You can't even press on it properly or air will leak out through the piston. Worse, sometimes hot coffee splatters all over your hand. It started a few weeks ago and is getting worse. Googling it looks like this happens from time to time and Aerobie makes a replacement part, but apparently you'll have to call and order one - it's out of stock at Revain. or the Aerobee website that I can find. I don't mind replacing the worn part but the thing is 4 months old. There are only two coffee lovers in my house. Yes, we both drink a lot of coffee, but there are two of us. Two people wear out a coffee maker in 3 or 4 months - that's ridiculous. I don't know how much the fillings cost, but I'll probably ask for a few. I won't stop using this and I still believe it's the best way to make coffee, but I'm very disappointed. I hope this is an isolated case. I'll let you know in a few months when the second block is of a similar volume or when the first reaches the next 500 cups. At the same time, I am unfortunately deducting a star from my previous 5-star rating. UPDATED AGAIN - 6 months (approx) later. Your frequently used home device starts to wear out again. It was a bit more durable this time, but it's still starting to wear out. A little-used device in my office is still running on its first rubber tip. It looks like the lifespan of the rubber part is between 750 and 1000 cups of coffee. Maybe it will take years for some people? It's not very long for us. I still love this thing, I'll still use it, but I'm still a bit disappointed. You should simply tie the rubber piece to the filters. It's a little annoying to order, apparently there's an online source in Canada or you can call the manufacturer (yes, call over the phone - no online ordering). I also want to share a helpful tip. Once the rubber gasket starts to wear out, if you soak it in very hot water for a minute before use, it will sometimes rejuvenate and allow it to seal. Even after you create it, you can still use it, but with an extra step that only works in some cases.

Pros
  • Disposable filter
Cons
  • Requires an outlet
