We switched ISPs about a year ago when our previous ISP wanted to start charging us for more data usage per month. We switched from cable internet to DSL. Anyway, before we could have our cable modem going anywhere, there was a coax line in our home and office. The DSL going into our house has the strongest signal coming directly into the house, and the existing phone lines throughout our house (built in 1999) weren't as good, and our speeds would be about half that of the house phone line . be, which is why we placed our router in the garage where the phone line enters the house. For the past year, we've encountered dead spots with our Asus AC1900 dual-band router, which we still use as a hotspot for our USB hard drive that holds 4TB of movies and music. Setting up the Orbi proved extremely easy. I originally tried using the iOS app but it was cumbersome so I switched to the web method at address 192.168.1.1 and the Netgear wizard walked me through the setup. I'm not computer savvy at all. It was the easiest router I've ever installed. Everything was almost automatic. The most confusing part was trying to turn my old Asus AC1900 router into a hotspot to use my USB hard drive. This would be the only downside to the Orbi I've found so far, the lack of a USB drive, and being unfamiliar with computers I'm not sure how to work around that, especially as our drive is NTSF format and not FAT32. But the method I found works, so let's stick with it. Until something better comes along. Before we installed the Orbi, coverage in our home was fairly limited and often patchy. The streaming service is disabled, webpages won't load, and calls drop when calling over Wi-Fi. My spouse and I eventually stopped connecting our phones to Wi-Fi together and just used cellular, which was fine since it's unlimited. I'm surprised we didn't get the mesh system sooner. If I had known how easy it was to set up, I would have done it a long time ago.
