Review on Large 2.1 Quart Komax Tritan Clear Iced Tea Maker with Twist & Pour, Airtight Lid – BPA-Free Pitcher by Gage Lawson

Good pitcher with some flaws

I really like this ice tea maker but it has a few issues that I feel need to be addressed. The plastic is really good quality, thick and strong until the tea soils it, but it holds up well in the heat. I have a problem with the filter: it's too short. I'd rather have either an extension (like the competitor's pitchers) or closer to the bottom when someone only has to do halfway rather than filling it to the top. There is some sort of clothes net in the filter which at first I was really afraid it would tear quickly but I've brewed a few teas already and I see that holding the tea isn't a problem, I hope it doesn't spoil too quickly . But there are holes at the bottom of the filter, which are not small holes, but larger holes that allow finer tea to easily fall into the liquid. I solved this problem by cutting out round shapes from aluminum foil and placing them on the bottom of the filter. I've brewed 3 teas this way with no problems, no stray particles in the water. Another problem I have is related to the lid of the jar (dark brown). It only screws onto the jug once, about halfway, and although the lid fits snugly, it doesn't spill, I did a test - at 90 degrees it doesn't spill, although if you turn it upside down a bit, water stars splash everywhere. check my photos. Well, the other competitor's kettle has the lid screwed on at least twice for a secure tightening, wish this one was like that. You can also see from my photos that the water flow is uneven and you still have to be very careful when pouring tea into a glass. Personally, I keep a hat just in case. The water and open options are close together, and if you're not careful you can open the lid instead. I really like the overall shape and look of this jug, it looks classy which is why I bought it in the first place. I like the handle, it detaches and can be taken apart with a plastic sleeve. Cleaning is also very easy. Plus, it fits easily in my fridge and fits in the fridge door. Overall it's a good pitcher if the only intention was to hold hot/cold water or already brewed tea in it, as I mention the two main issues I have with it - I'm most worried about the filter and the lid opening , so I put it a three stars.

Pros
  • Carafes and jugs
Cons
  • So far so good
