Review on Professional Premium Numbered Colored Schpirerr by Summer Edwards

Affordable Quality Oil Based Pencils

Schpirerr Farben is a brand new company in the colored pencil market. And they're natural competition for already existing well-known brands, so it makes sense to compare them. So I did. I quickly compared the same composition of colored drinking glasses (both made on the same Sax 90lb art paper). Faber Castell Polychromos vs. Schpierrr Colors. Impressions: They're both almost identical in terms of how they feel when they hit the paper. SF can be a little softer than FC because I noticed less paper grain shows through in FC, but that's easily remedied with buffing and more coats. The layering for both was very good and I felt they both made a good note and I kept them. The wood body of the SF is of very high quality - very smooth and dense texture, easy and clean to sharpen. It's a good deal of quality and I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone looking to up their game with cheap wax-based pencils. To sum up, if lightfastness isn't important to you (time will tell) and you want an oil-based pencil that the venerable Polychromos can actually handle, Schpirerr Farben pencils at a fraction of the price are a good place to start. I don't see any reason to avoid them yet. They are beautiful and come in a nice tin. Note: I paid for this and the manufacturer didn't ask me to do it for anything in return; I was only curious!
