This is my third p-touch labeller. The other two had keyboards that took up a lot of desk space. I really like the small size of the PT-2430PC and I really miss the keyboard. The basic label editor program runs from a flash drive inside the PT-2430PC itself! The basic editor is so powerful that I never felt the need to install the "advanced" editor from CD. I create labels with graphic warnings and instructions and the quality is decent with 1 inch tape. Many reviewers complain about poor graphics quality, but it's important to understand that this printer is pixel-based and cannot print in grayscale. Looks so hot, 2 color characters looks great. The company logo looks great. Here are just some of the use cases: - Tag your portable tech devices with your mobile phone number. - Label your mobile phone with your office number. -Tag your food containers so you can get them back -Tag your tools so you can actually get them back -Tag your mailbox to prevent delivery errors (it works.) -Tag your pantry and closet shelves so no one can cheese moves. Label your kids! (Make bracelets.) Here's my own list of pros and cons: Pros: - There is a wide range of color combinations and ribbon widths up to 1 inch for this printer. (My favorite is the gold on black.) - You can print the mirror on transparent tape and stick it in the window. - You can print text and graphics from any Windows application. - There are extra strong adhesive tapes for long exposure outdoors. - Even standard labels are dishwasher safe for years of daily washing. (This is an important point.) - Small desktop size - Basic editing software is built into the device. - Automatically cuts the tape. - The editor tells you the length of the label before you print it. The machine uses 1 inch of ribbon at the beginning of each print job. (Multiple copies only use 1 inch before the first label.) — The default setting is wide margins, which wastes ribbon. (You can narrow the margin to avoid waste.) — The different layers of ribbon sometimes shift slightly, forming a thin sticky stripe on the front of the label. - Cartridges are expensive. Conclusion: Despite all the small flaws. As mentioned above, I highly recommend this printer. If you need a keyboard, choose PT-2700.
