I use nutmeg in tea, coffee, pudding and other dishes as well as in spice mixtures for cider, mead and spiced beer. There is no comparison between fresh and pre-ground nutmeg, neither in aroma nor in taste! We had one of those scrapers they keep nuts in, and it hurt, and you usually couldn't eat a nut without getting the skin off the joints. This device is very well designed. Loading the nut is easy and shaves fine powder very well. There's store for more nuts! Great idea and the nuts are in the airtight part of the device. A trick to using the whole nut is when it turns into a sliver, instead of removing it, place another nut on top and it will grind up the first sliver before starting the second. A very cool and well designed piece of equipment that I hope will last a long time as I now enjoy grinding nutmeg rather than being afraid of it.
