. I am so glad I have this item. Now I can monitor the temperature of my fridge and freezer without opening the door! All you had to do was insert the batteries and install the sensors in place. My monitor attaches to the side of the fridge with 4 magnets, but you can also hang it on a nail with a hole in the back. The sensors are each powered by 2 AA batteries and the monitor by 2 AAA batteries. I used normal alkaline batteries (Duracell). I have chosen not to pay for expensive lithium batteries. So far I haven't had any problems. I've had a power outage lately and would like to know what the temperature is in my fridge (without opening the door) so I know when to buy ice cream. The suction cups didn't work, the sensor units fell off within seconds of being attached. I didn't clean the wall before posting, that might be a factor, but I'd still rather have it on a shelf. On the back of the monitor you have a Celsius or Fahrenheit switch as well as a reset switch. I don't use alarm clocks. You must program the alarm settings if you want to use them. You can reset the high and low readings simply by pressing the clr button. ***UPDATE 9/26/17*** About a month ago I had a 10 hour power outage. This Akurite block worked PERFECTLY! I constantly monitored the temperature in the fridge and freezer and when the temperature got too low we would go out and get ice packs to put all the food in the fridge. I then placed the sending device in the middle of the fridge to make sure the temperature stayed low enough. I can't love this item more than I do now! Worth every penny in my book. A NOTICE. I still have the same batteries and they still work. I don't use an alarm clock. But I check high and low temps every morning and then reset before bed, check and reset. My freezing temperature ranges from -5 degrees (f) to 10 degrees depending on how far we open the door. It doesn't seem to affect my Duracell alkaline batteries. Very glad I didn't pay for lithium batteries. UPDATE 8-27-18: This device still works! I recently replaced all the original batteries (after about 8 months) although they worked perfectly. I wanted to make sure the batteries wouldn't run out if my power went out. This is the best unit.
