Bought these more than once. That says a lot. They last (until your kids lose them!). I've never had to drop one. You just need to wash them as needed. You can cover it with a cup or bowl on the top shelf of the dishwasher and it will be sanitized. (Note: brushing may not remove stains.) To clean them without a dishwasher, I recommend a product like Oxy Clean. Place half a scoop or less on a plate wide enough to lay the sponges flat, then add warm or hot water to dissolve. Let the sponges soak in for a moment, then rinse out until they no longer smell of cleaner, let them dry, done. As you can see in my photo, I made a hole in one corner so I can air dry them. Rinse and wring out with each use. The less time they spend wet, the cleaner they stay.
