Review on Freud FB 011 2 Inch 8 Inch Forstner: Efficient Drilling Performance and Precision by Drew Poulin

Ideal for countersinking in sheet material.

I didn't use this standard 1 1/2 inch Forstner bit. I installed a couple of LVL supports parallel to the existing support to remove the column. Joists together, I had to drive the studs through the drywall to the wood. Not knowing what the best option would be, I bought a 1 1/2" drill bit and a 1 1/2" spade bit and it's a 1 1/2" Forstner bit. I'm sure the drill can work, but it's not a clean hole as it starts with a lot of hesitation before cutting. The spade drill works well but struggles to keep it from biting too hard into soft rock. Not only was Freud the best at this task, but the thickness of the head was the perfect size; It was flush with the drywall surface while still being in contact with the wood. I have no doubt that the drill bit will drill right through the wood based on the cut; My usage was just different.

Pros
  • Drill bit
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
