Save Your Money - Weather Protection

We've been using 3M Window Insulation Kits on our interior windows for years and we know how to install them properly, what surfaces to use for tape etc, but with when we moved to a new house , where the blinds are installed in double window frames, we decided to use these outdoor kits so that we can use our blinds in winter. It was a futile effort. In total we insulated four windows, three of them on an aluminum window frame which provides a smooth surface with no tricky corners to glue and an ideal surface for using double sided tape. The other was on a raw aluminum storm window frame and I knew it might not stick well due to oxidation but that was the only option. All surfaces have been thoroughly cleaned with window cleaner and then alcohol and then left to dry. Tape and insulation were applied when it was almost 60 degrees so it was warm enough for the tape to adhere properly and when I used a heat gun to tighten/shrink the insulation I was careful not to shrink it too much since the insulation would peel off the tape but within two weeks all four windows have some spots where the insulation has come loose and if I rub that spot to make it stick again it will come loose after a day or two. Even Minnesota isn't that cold yet, so if the bond crashes now, it will definitely crash when it gets to zero outside. Everything is removed and thrown away, waste of time and money.
