Bought to control a 100w solar panel in a small van. To be honest, I looked at so many of them that they all started to merge and I settled on the one that is in the mid-range price range. A little electrical knowledge is helpful for installation, it is not proof of fake, and even after installation, it requires a little intuition to operate. So it works, but there is a voltage drop, it takes longer to build a charge. I measured the power and found I was losing a half volt through this controller and then another half volt through the ZAMP connector. So I dangerously connected the solar panel directly to the battery. The battery is supplied with an impressive voltage of 18V at 4.2 amps. I say dangerous because it creates the possibility of overcharging your batteries. But for me I have a constant load and it's only a 100w panel which probably only peaks 4-5 hours a day as I don't like constantly chasing the sun. I adjust the panel to the best angle for my duration and just let it charge the battery. Again, my constant load reduces the risk of overcharging, and with only 100 watts I'm not trying to run on solar power, just charging the batteries. I dry the camp and run everything on battery power. (No TV or microwave) So I figured it would be waterproof. (maybe I'm wrong, I've looked at so much) but I guarantee it's not waterproof. It rained on me for a few days and water got in and the display went blank. Can't even tell if it still worked after that, after it dried which took a few days the display was back but after that the menus and displays got kinda weird. I still use this controller from time to time when I feel like it's charging the batteries, but I suggest installing it indoors, my ZAMP port is outside so I left it outside. An enterprising person can come up with a "built-in" solution using permanently installed panels.
