These Vietnamese coffee makers are fantastic. I ordered the large 11 ounce coffee makers and they came with detailed instructions and pictures but I think the instructions are for the much smaller maker as it says to use 1 tablespoon of ground coffee. After experimenting with this a bit, I came up with a way to make Vietnamese iced coffee that tastes the same as that served in restaurants (again, note that this is for an 11-ounce brewer): 1. The Instructions say you must take a medium grind, but it felt too coarse to me. On my Cuisinart grinder, I set it a few stops below average. There are holes in the coffee maker and you just need the ground coffee to be bigger than these holes. In addition, you do not have to use a special type of coffee. One of the restaurants we go to uses Starbucks. I use any dark roast I have on hand. Place the lower filter bowl over the cup and place the coffee maker on top. A 16 ounce glass or pitcher will work well for a brewery of this size.3. Put ground coffee in the coffee maker. I believe 6 tablespoons makes a good, strong cup of coffee. Place the gravity insert into the brewer and press down to compact the coffee grounds.5. Pour 8 ounces of 200+ degree (F) water into the brewer.6. Once brewed, take out the brewer, stir in the condensed milk (I use 2 heaping teaspoons), then add ice. Enjoy that you just saved at least $3 and now you can have Vietnamese Iced Coffee anytime. Restaurants give you a smaller jar of condensed milk and coffee is brewed in that jar. Then you stir it and pour it into a glass filled with ice. Shaking is easier if you add condensed milk to the hot coffee and not the other way around. Adding ice to your coffee at the end means you have one less glass to wash. If you enjoy drinking Vietnamese coffee, this is a great little investment.
