I ordered this microphone to replace the cheap microphone because I kept getting complaints about the sound quality when making phone calls from the computer. This mic is different from the old one day and night. On the very first call I had with him, the first thing the caller said was how great the microphone sounds. I used SoundForge to record myself speaking and I agreed. It has a pleasant, bright sound, clear as a bell. I usually place the mic right in front of the monitors, at an angle to me, so I can talk to the mic at the end from 24 inches away and even people in moving cars can hear me very clearly. I experimented with the mic at various distances, up to 4-6 inches, and as expected from a polar mic, it got a bit louder and the sound got noticeably more spacious, especially in the mid and low range. But although I could see it clearly in my recording, the listeners on the other end of the line said they barely noticed the difference. I wouldn't recommend this mic for serious audio recording; but as a general purpose desk mic it's very good and great value for money.
