I have an EOS 7D which I bought with a Canon 60mm 2.8 macro lens. I'm very happy with this lens so of course I compare other lenses to it as it's my only benchmark. I quickly realized I needed a wide-angle lens, but I didn't like the quality of all zoom lenses, so I quickly settled on a prime. After reading some bad reviews about Canon's 24mm and 28mm lenses, I settled on the Sigma 24mm 1.8 lens. After trying two copies and sending one to the Sigma, I could never get it to focus reliably and I eventually had to abandon the idea. Of Canon's 24mm and 28mm prime lenses, the 24mm seems to get slightly better reviews. I must say that I am very satisfied with this lens, it is very sharp and generally pleasant. I really have no complaints other than that the focus ring feels a bit cheap. Focusing is fast, accurate and consistent. Update: Having used this lens for many shots I feel I should let everyone know how it works for me. So far the lens is working great and hasn't given me any problems after over 1000 shots. The copy I received seems very sharp throughout the image. I had the opportunity to compare it with the 17-55 f2.8 lens and I have to say that it has almost the same if not better image quality. Given the difference in price, I'd say it's worth it for someone on a budget.
