As laptops are often on people's laps - wow! It's surprising how few cooling pads have been designed for this use. Almost all have a hard plastic base that is better suited for desktop use. When I was looking for a replacement for a Targus Cooling Pad that was noisy and vibrating after a few years of use, I actually had trouble finding a suitable one. Bottom with fabric or soft lining for comfortable wearing on the knees. Luckily, I came across the Belkin CoolSpot, which has a padded bottom in addition to the fabric. covered with fabric, but without Targus soft lining. It also seems to cool well. Contrary to what another review here claims, this device has two air intakes, one on the bottom and one on the back, allowing air to flow freely whether you're using your laptop on a hard surface or on your lap. The fan performs adequately. air, completely silent in operation and does not vibrate the laptop. I'm deducting a star from my rating because the USB power cord is a bit short. It barely reaches any of the USB ports on my 15.6-inch Toshiba Satellite, which is on the front of the laptop. The cable connects to the back of the cooling pad, right in the middle. To get to one of my USB ports I have to route the cable diagonally across the top of the cooling pad under the laptop - not the best solution and can put too much strain on the cable (IMHO). To solve this problem, I ordered the shortest USB extension cable. The Revain cable is 12 inches long, which unfortunately adds $5 to the cost of the cooling pad. I had NO issues with the length of the Targus cord being a few inches too long. extra USB ports or LED indicators, but I don't need that. I just need a comfortable pillow to keep my laptop cool and protect my hips from the heat of the laptop and for that purpose this Belkin seems to fit well. ADVANTAGES: * Pleasantly soft bottom * Two air intakes, one under the pillow, one behind * Si elongated, vibration-free fan. * Good dimensions for laptops 15.6" or smaller. CONS: * USB cable can be a few centimeters longer.
