This replaced the original unit in a van from 20 years ago which had a large transformer and some circuit boards. overheat until the thermal switch trips. This device is silent as long as neither of its two fans is running. Plus, it has a smart (uh) charger. Installation was pretty easy except for the battery cables. In the old system they came from below, but in this one they came from above. This took the most time to complete the installation. One point that could be an issue is the lack of a direct connection between the battery and the 12V consumers. I found that when I reconnect the batteries the lights come on. So that could be a possible point of failure. So far I'm happy with it, but haven't lived with it for a while.
