Every decoration, every plant, every glass wall was covered with gray dust. The only way to get it off the plants was to massage each leaf with your hand after the dust had settled. Most importantly, it wasn't good for my fish. All of their poop was the same color as the sand, which made sense since they were swimming in its dust. My two zebra trout were swimming like crazy, never resting, and finally I noticed their bellies were turning red! After two months I decided to bite the bullet and change it. It took me a few days to get everything clean because the water got so murky I couldn't see what I was doing or if I was going to kill the fish. (And yes, I was careful). I chose Imagitarium Black Sand and I love it. It's not entirely natural; People recommend beach sand and other similar products if all things natural are important to you. But it was dust free when I washed it, went in easily, didn't kick up dust when I moved it. Holds my plants well. And the best thing is that my fish pile is now the same color as my other tank and my char although they are very active spend their time resting and digging at the bottom of the tank just like char. I think there can be circumstances. where someone loves that sand enough to endure dust. Otherwise, I think there are better options. And I would categorically not use it if you plan to catch some sensitive bottom dwellers - loaches, barnacles, etc.
