For Cord Cutters Good, Bad, and Ugly

Let's start with Ugly: This item costs $30. Plus $8.00 for shipping and handling, including tax, this solution costs $40.00. It didn't work for us so we had to pay for return shipping, too bad. The Bad: The seller doesn't specify which product you're receiving, we received "I VIEW - 3200STB-A". This device has a terrible rating. The included antenna was unusable for us, unless you live very close to the tower you'll still need to get an OTA-HD antenna. The manual is 19 pages long and not very good at all. It took a lot of trial and error to get it working. You need to be pretty computer savvy and patient for it to work for you. This is not intuitive. As stated in the description, this device is designed to record ONE broadcast at a time. You cannot watch anything else while recording. When you watch a recording, it switches to real time to record something else. Just a tuner. You can't watch and pause and skip commercials while recording, it just stops recording. Before we connected this device, we had about 30 channels. After we plugged it in, it was 10. The picture started to flicker and reception became blurry. The recording and playback functions are very clunky. You choose what you want to record, but the system still asks you to enter the date, time, etc. enter manually. When playing a show it's difficult to fast forward and rewind as the remote control is very responsive. It's frustrating. It tells you when there is a schedule conflict, but then I had to go back to the beginning of the recording. Sometimes it just decided that the show I wanted to record was impossible. In general, we sent it back after 3 days. My husband didn't want to learn all his quirks. The remote control is small with tiny letters, I had to constantly look for functions in the manual. Now for the GOOD: This device kicked Tablo's butt! The scoreboard costs $200. This device was easier to set up and use. We sent Tablo back the next day. You don't need an internet connection to set up and use this box. A cost-effective solution if you want free-to-air TV with a recorder. This device costs about $40, plus you'll need a $20-$80 antenna and a $20-$100 external drive. Our cost for all 3 was around $170. It costs about $14 a month for a TV for the first year. Ignore the clunky interface or if you watch a lot of PBS and want to watch on a schedule, this is the solution for you. If you need more information read other reviews. Finally, keep in mind that this is a cheaper solution than cable and satellite TV services. plus you'll need a $20-$80 antenna and a $20-$100 external drive. Our cost for all 3 was around $170.
