I can't say anything about motion detection because I don't want to use it. I would give 5 stars but they are less than what we believe in the pictures although it is written if you read this deeper. I was surprised at how small but not disappointed at all. I just want the buyer to know this so you don't buy them expecting something else and then blame the seller. However, if you're using them under a closet like I do, or somewhere else where they're tucked away, that's not a problem. I love these little lights! They only took a few minutes to charge while surfing the web, and they're easy to install with magnetic strips. I like this as they can be easily detached when they need to be recharged. The LEDs are bright white and clear. I will definitely be buying more of these to use as display case lighting. These handy lanterns can also be used during a power outage as they are portable (just attached with a magnet). I will even use it in my Christmas show.
