We use them at our own expense with Retevis RT22 (16ch) and some much more expensive Motorola radios. I'm a big fan of Motorola in the commercial radio space, but I can attest that they work just as well as a few Motorola FRS units we've tried. And a pair of Motorola devices costs as much as four of them, and in some cases more. The range of these RT27 devices is slightly better than that of the RT22. This may be partly due to the longer external antenna, partly to the stronger and clearer sound of the RT27. Although RT22 is good too. I like the RT27's extra channels, better sound quality and sturdy weight. They just feel way more reliable than other units. The improved sound quality also applies to the channel's voice announcement function. I like the 'quiet' front of this radio - not a big digital display full of information useless to the average user. We also believe that plug-in chargers are much more efficient for our volunteers. On the other hand you need an adapter cable, some free Retevis software and a PC to change some Retevis functions that can be changed via the front panel. on some other devices like Motorola. However, for me - church volunteers, museums, and various other non-technical users - I find it MUCH more efficient not to have many controls for the user to play around with. I set the radios to suit my environmental preferences (squelch, privacy codes, etc.) and then the user just selects a channel, turns it on, adjusts the volume - and it works! In fact I program some of my users the same frequency on all channels - just to save myself the heartache :-) I've done range and various other field tests with this and many other radios - I'm VERY happy with the work. Functionality, quality and reliability of Retevis RT27. I gave them five stars for value but would give more if I could!
